I See Little Green Men.

The Princess came home from school last week all excited about hearing of a meteor which buzzed our part of the country. I use the word "part" loosely as the actual site was over 8 hours away. But, apparently, it was visible from where we're at... had we managed to be looking out over the evening sky at precisely the right moment. Which we didn't.

Sucks to be us.

Luckily, for those of us who were lamely looking in other directions while very cool things were falling from space and imploding upon reaching the earth's atmosphere... lucky for us there is YouTube. And police dash cams.

Cool, huh?

I saw that on the news. Amazing that it was caught on film.

We were talking around the dinner table last night about the difference between a meteor, a meteoroid and a meteorite. None of us could remember what the difference was. So much for 8th grade science.

Cocotte -- what have you done?!?!? You have awakened FlutterGEEK and compelled me to wiki all about meteors. So, it appears that "meteoroid" refers to the chunk of stuff while it's floating around in space, "meteor" is what it's called as it creates a visible path into the earth's atmosphere, and "meteorite" is what you call any remnants that survive the fall through the atmospere and hit the earth.

Wow. Was that as boring for you as it was for me? :)

FTN -- lol! He kinda missed the cornfields of Kansas by a long shot, though.

word ver -- bendsme. :D

No, that wasn't boring....you wrote it much better than a textbook. But I will have forgotten it by tomorrow ;)

Hey - my word veri is crave. Off to get a piece of leftover Halloween candy!

Very cool, Flutter.

At the summer camp I volunteer at every year, there's a group of guys who sometimes gather after hours on the boat for a convivial beverage or two, and when the sky is clear, we'll lean back and scan the sky for shooting stars. Once (in nearly 20 years), we saw one that left a glowing ion trail that crossed pretty much the whole sky. It wasn't nearly as brilliant as this one, but it was the most incredible thing I've ever seen in the night sky. . .

Desmond -- Rule #1 - Never trust the stories of drunk men in boats.

Or something like that! :D

Really, though, that does sound like a pretty cool sighting. Can't say I've ever seen anything like that... I also can't say I've spent much time drinking while boating at night. Must remedy this.

Boy, now you make us sound like some kind of degenerates. . . I mean, it's a kids' summer camp; we can't be goin' out and gettin' blotto every night. An' yeef; after-dark, drunk boating doesn't sound any more responsible, either. Mostly, we just sit in the boat while it's still moored to the dock, have a beverage (or maybe two) to unwind, watch the skies, tell a few stories, and then head to bed. . .

But that just sounds so boring. . .

;)

And - 'mingueno'. . . whatever that means. . .
